Nizan Leibovich
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1969, Nizan Leibovich graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Rubin
Academy in Tel Aviv with degrees in both Composition and Conducting. He studied with Leon
Schidlowsky and Noam Sheriff. Mr. Leibovich received his Master's of Arts in Orchestral
Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, under the direction of Juan
Pablo Izquierdo. During his studies he also served as Assistant Conductor to Mr. Izquierdo and
the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic Orchestra. In this position, he assisted in preparing the
orchestra for the 75th Anniversary concert of the composer Iannis Xenakis at Carnegie Hall, NY
in April of 1996.
During its 1996/97 concert season, Nizan Leibovich was appointed Resident Conductor to the
Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, and held the position of Adjunct Professor of Composition at
Duquesne University. After completing his residency, he served as Assistant Conductor in the
Italian opera houses of Genoa and Rome.
In September 1999, he was invited to conduct the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in the opening
and final concerts at the "Israeli Music Days" Festival in Jerusalem in a live radio broadcast, and
has since been called upon to regularly conduct in this prestigious festival. In 2001 he was
appointed the Festival's Artistic Director.
Currently Nizan Leibovich conducts orchestras and ensembles in the United States, Europe and
Israel. He is a recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarships, and in 1992,
won the Klon Prize for Young Composers from the Israeli Composer's League.
